When you file for a divorce in Ontario, you receive a copy of the Divorce Order from the court. This document indicates that your divorce will take effect 31 days after the date the judge signs it. Once the 31 days has passed, you or your ex-spouse can apply for a Certificate of Divorce.

The Certificate of Divorce is proof that you have been legally divorced. If you plan to remarry or need proof of your divorce, you will need a Certificate of Divorce. (The Divorce Order is not considered official proof of your divorce.)

To apply for a Certificate of Divorce, you will need the following:

1. A signed Divorce Order
2. The Certificate of Divorce form
3. Fee of $19.00 (cash or money order only payable to Minister of Finance)

Click on the online forms button below to create your Certificate of Divorce form. After the 31 days has passed from the date the Divorce Order was signed, take the above 3 items to the same courthouse location where your divorce forms were filed. Your Certificate of Divorce form will be signed and sealed and this will be the official proof of your divorce.
