The Rules of Civil Procedure generally require that a corporation that is a party to a legal proceeding must be represented by a lawyer. However, this requirement is not set in stone. Rule 15.01(2) provides courts with discretion to allow a non-lawyer to represent a corporation in legal proceedings. This guide book offers a summary of some of the circumstances in which courts have allowed (or "granted leave") for a non-lawyer to represent a corporation.
