Project Description:
Launched in April 2010, this project provides low-income, unrepresented litigants in the Federal Court, primarily on judicial review applications, with the assistance of counsel at any phase of their proceedings, including hearings. To be eligible for the project, applicants must meet financial eligibility criteria based on median family income guidelines, be ineligible for legal aid, and present with a civil law matter with legal merit and a reasonable prospect of success.

While the project is designed to match clients with lawyers who can provide full representation, it is possible that a brief services component will be added. Applications for assistance are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Pro Bono Opportunities:
Pro Bono opportunities exist to become a member of this roster and act as counsel to low-income litigants in the Federal Court.

Volunteer Qualifications:
Volunteers must complete a CLE program or undertake to become familiar with the materials identified on the bibliography provided at the opening CLE. Give the range of experience levels among the current roster of lawyers, PBLO will help to arrange mentorship for less experienced members of the roster.
