Qualifying for Assistance
In order to qualify for assistance at Law Help Ontario, you must meet financial eligibility criteria. Also, you must be acting as an individual and not a company--corporations and businesses do not qualify for these services. Lastly, you must clear our conflicts check (see Conflict of Interest below for an explanation of what this means).
Financial Eligibility
The financial eligibility criteria are as follows: your primary source of household income is from one or more government support programs, OR your total gross household income falls below the program's financial cut-offs:
Family Size Financial Cut-Off
Number in Family / Annual Household Income
1 $36,000 / year
2 $54,000 / year
3 $61,992 / year
4 $73,992 / year
If you have any questions regarding your eligibility, please visit us and speak directly with a coordinator in person, at the centre.
Conflict of Interest
If you need legal advice from one of our volunteer lawyers, we first need to check for any "conflicts of interest." This means that a lawyer (or law firm) cannot represent you if the opposing parties are their client.
We CANNOT help you at the centre with: family law matters, criminal cases, human rights, etc. Please refer to our online resources for information that might be available in these areas.
