We are currently recruiting for volunteer positions for the Winter 2010 term. (Jaunary 1, 2010 - April, 2010).

Volunteer Role at Law Help Ontario (Toronto & Ottawa):
Client Facilitator and Coordinator

Purpose: To provide assistance and support to self-represented individuals who access the centre and need assistance with the computer kiosks at Law Help Ontario.

Minimum Commitment: 1 session per week during the school year. Sessions are 9:00am - 12:00pm or 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

The Volunteer will:

• Provide on-site assistance at Law Help Ontario to clients, staff, and volunteer lawyers
• Assist clients with opening, printing, emailing, and editing court documents in Microsoft Word;
• Assist clients with use of the Internet and library of resource materials
• Photocopy and fax court documents for clients
• Maintain an inventory of procedural information resources
• Assist with administrative support
• Such other tasks as may be assigned

Qualifications:

• Candidates that are currently enrolled at a recognized Law School or a University/College with a focus on legal training or social work/community services;
• Interest in access to justice issues;
• Interest in civil litigation;
• Good working knowledge of computers (Windows, word processing and email systems)
• Ability to work comfortably with the general public using tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment
• Ability to communicate effectively - orally and in writing

This role is a volunteer position. We will be reviewing applications in December, 2010 and will contact those who qualify.
